On April 12, 2025, Drokpo Nepal hosted the Himalayan Fair 2025 at Srongtsen Brikuti Boarding High School in Boudha — a heartfelt celebration marking 20 years of Drokpo’s work in community service, cultural preservation, and grassroots compassion across Tibetan and Himalayan communities in Nepal.

With over 1,000 people in attendance, the fair was a vibrant coming together of generations, traditions, and shared purpose. One guest captured the spirit of the day perfectly:

“From the moment I stepped into the fairgrounds, I felt the energy - joyful, vibrant, and deeply rooted in purpose.”

The day began with a ceremonial welcome speech, followed by a presentation highlighting Drokpo’s 20-year journey. We shared our ongoing work across social enterprise, education, women’s empowerment, cultural preservation, environmental advocacy, and street dog welfare -all rooted in community resilience. One of the most meaningful moments of the day was the official launch of biodegradable Khatags and Lungtas - traditional Himalayan ceremonial items thoughtfully reimagined in an eco-friendly form. This important initiative was introduced by Dr. Ghana Shyam Gurung, Country Representative of WWF Nepal, who spoke with passion and urgency about the environmental damage caused by synthetic alternatives and the significance of embracing sustainable practices to protect our shared future.

A Day of Celebration, Connection, and Culture

The fair was filled with incredible moments - from the breathtaking cultural performances and delicious Himalayan cuisine to a bustling eco-conscious marketplace where local entrepreneurs and artisans showcased sustainable, handmade goods.

As the sun began to set, the energy only grew. The evening concert brought the crowd to life - dancing, singing, and celebrating under the stars.

We were honored to welcome a talented lineup of performers who brought joy, beauty, and meaning to the stage. Highlights included:

• Nepal Tibetan Lhamo Association (NTLA)
• Nritya Troops
• The Wings
• Bhayul Kordoling
• Kathmandu Dora Tramo
• Dolpo and Limi Kyiduk
• Bhuchung Sherap and
• Sonam Topden and The Band

And one of the most remarkable moments? A surprise performance by the one and only Tenzin Mariko, joined by Tenzin Dawa, Samdup Dorjee, and Tenzin Norbu - a performance that brought the crowd to its feet and left hearts full.

More Than a Fair — A Movement
While the music and food were equally good, what truly stood out was the deep sense of community and solidarity. We believe that people came not just to enjoy the festivities, but to support Drokpo’s vision of equity, compassion, and grassroots action.

Throughout the day, the fair offered something for everyone - interactive games, a fashion show celebrating traditional attire, and plenty of space for connection and reflection. Attendees sampled favorites like momo, chowmein, and shabaley, and visited the Drokpo Mercantile stall, where they learned more about our programs and how to get involved - whether through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word about Drokpo’s vision.

Supporting Local Voices and Heritage

Artisan stalls lined the fairgrounds, offering handmade jewelry, books, and traditional crafts. These weren’t just products - they were stories. By supporting local artists and creators, visitors played a role in sustaining cultural heritage and helping preserve generational knowledge and livelihoods rooted in the Himalayan tradition.

Looking Ahead with Gratitude

Our goal for the Himalayan Fair 2025 was simple: to celebrate 20 years of Drokpo’s journey by creating a space that honors our roots, uplifts our voices, and inspires collective action for a better future.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life - our generous sponsors, the dedicated principal and staff of Srongtsen Brikuti Boarding School, our dedicated MCs, the talented artists and performers, our tireless volunteers, and most of all, every single attendee who showed up with love, energy, and unwavering support. Your presence truly made this celebration unforgettable.

We left the Himalayan Fair energized, hopeful, and more connected than ever.

We are already counting down the days until the next one - and we hope to see you there.

Until then, here’s to community, culture, and compassion.
